2026 Renault Trafic price and specs: Goodbye manual, hello new auto

Feb 20, 2026 by admin

The 2026 Renault Trafic range has launched in Australia, with the updated commercial van range offering improved technology and upgrades to the driveline.

Gone is the option of a manual transmission, along with the Trafic’s six-speed dual-clutch ‘EDC’ transmission – replaced with a nine-speed torque-converter automatic, which Renault says is smoother and has helped reduce fuel economy.

The Trafic’s 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine retains its power outputs of 125kW and 380Nm, but has been updated to meet Euro 6 emissions standards.

Renault claims fuel economy has reduced by almost five per cent – from 6.5L/100km to 6.2L/100km.

With the exception of the short-wheelbase Trafic Premium, which has increased by $2500, the cost of the Trafic range has gone up by $1500 for 2026 – following a $490 increase in 2025 – and the discontinuation of manual variants means the cost of entry into the Renault van is now $3500 more.

Renault has also slimmed down the range, with just five variants to choose from – two short-wheelbase (SWB), and three long-wheelbase (LWB) models – compared to eight available in 2025, which included three SWB and five LWB configurations.

The maximum braked towing capacity is now 2500kg across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control has become standard equipment on Premium and Lifestyle variants.

The announcement follows several changes to the Trafic in 2025, which included – among other changes – the standard fitment of a factory-fitted steel bulkhead with window for Pro and Premium models, as well as a middle seat which doubles as a workstation with hidden laptop compartment.

A second hidden compartment is located under the passenger seat on Premium variants, which can also accommodate building materials of up to 2.9 metres in short-wheelbase vans, or up to 3.3 metres on the long-wheelbase – while the seat is in use.

With the passenger seat not in use, the Trafic can accept lengths of up to 3.5 and 3.9 metres, respectively.

The updated MY26 Renault Trafic is due to arrive in Australian dealerships from February 2026.

Pricing

Available in several configurations, the Renault Trafic range begins at $52,990 before on-road costs for the Pro short-wheelbase (SWB), and tops out at $64,990 before on-road costs for the Trafic Crew Lifestyle long-wheelbase (LWB).
